It’s quick and easy to install YakChat into Microsoft Teams, using the Teams Admin Portal. Our handy step-by-step guide shows you how.
Instructions: Install YakChat, using the Microsoft Teams Admin Portal
Important: Make sure that you upload the .zip file into Microsoft Teams intact. It is most important that you do not extract any files contained in the .zip file, otherwise the installation process will fail, even if you re-compress the files into a new .zip file.
Because Safari browsers are often set to automatically extract .zip files, you must disable this setting. You can find Instructions on how to do that here.
To download the YakChat App and YakChat Bot for Microsoft Teams, click the Download buttons above.
Important: The zip file must not be unpacked. The whole zip file must be uploaded into Microsoft Teams.
Open your Microsoft Teams Admin Portal.
Click on the Teams apps menu
Then click on the the Manage apps sub-menu.
Now click on the Upload button on the toolbar.
To install the YakChat App: select the YakChat.zip file in your browser’s default download folder and click Open.
To install the YakChat Bot: select the YakBot.zip file in your browser’s default download folder and click Open.
Click on the Search by name box in the the toolbar and type “Yak” to check that the YakChat App and Bot are installed into your Microsoft Teams environment.
To add the YakChat App and the Bot into a Teams policy, click on the Setup policies sub-menu.
Then click on the policy that you want to add YakChat to.
Now click the Add apps button .
Enter “Yak” into the Search by name box in the Add installed apps popup.
Click the Add button to add the YakChat App and the Bot.
Now click the Add button at the bottom of the Add Installed apps popup.
The YakChat App and YakChat Bot will now be available for your users within the policy, and will be listed under Installed apps.
To add the YakChat App to the Teams side bar, select Add apps in the Pinned apps section which you will find below the Installed Apps.
Type the word “Yak” into the Search by name box in the Add pinned apps popup.
Click the Add button to add the YakChat App, and then click Add at the bottom of the popup.
The YakChat App will now be added to your Pinned apps.
To reposition the YakChat app, select the app in the list and click on the Move up or Move down button.
To add the Bot to a specific Teams channel, go to the Manage apps sub-menu under Teams apps.
Select YakBot and then click on the Add to team button on the toolbar.
Enter “Yak” into the Search by name box in the Add to a team popup.
Click the Add button to add the YakChat App and then click Add at the bottom of the popup.
Select a user in the policy and/or Teams channel to check that the YakChat App and the Bot have been added correctly.
