How to solve “channel not linked to a shared inbox” error

The error message “This channel is not linked to a shared inbox please re-install and link to an inbox” is displayed by the YakChat bot when the the Channel is not linked to a corresponding YakChat inbox/number.  

This occurs when YakChat inbox/number is assigned to a different channel or the linking process failed when YakChat was added to the Teams Channel.  The resolution to this issue is provided below.

Step 1: Check the Teams Channel

When the YakChat bot is installed into a Channel within Microsoft Teams it can be mentioned in any Channel within the parent Team where the channel is located (this is a function of Microsoft Teams). 

YakChat adds a “YakChat” tab into the toolbar when installed in a channel. To confirm whether YakChat has been installed, simply check check for a “YakChat” tab in the toolbar.  If not, then find the channel where YakChat has been installed and try again.  If the “YakChat” tab is in the toolbar then go to step 2

Step 2: Uninstall YakChat from Teams channel

To uninstall YakChat hover over the YakChat tab in the Teams channel and then select ‘Uninstall’ from the drop down menu.

To complete the uninstallation, click on the ‘Uninstall’ button in the pop-up window that is displayed.

Step 3: Re-install YakChat into the Teams channel
